Memorial Day Fridge

June 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Pittsburgh is a friendly town. I can already tell.

Over memorial day weekend I breezed into town to try to get the new house settled. The main stuff:

  • get shades up in the girls’ rooms so that they could sleep without the sun waking them up
  • meet the neighbors
  • clean up the lawn
  • buy a fridge

That last was probably the most important, because it sucks to move into a house with no fridge. The problem was that I was only in town for sat night through Monday afternoon on memorial day weekend and I doubted anyone would deliver. Enter Perla’s Appliances.

We were all skeptical about the ability of a big-box store to sell/deliver on the same day or the next over the Memorial day weekend. So we thought to look at the smaller stores. Perla’s ad in the yellow pages said they were closed Sundays and Holidays, so of course my mother, who was in town helping to set up the household (thanks, Mom!) decided to call them. Rocky answered.

The shop was closed, but he was there. So he gave us directions, sold us a fridge, and delivered it the next day. That was it. No bickering. No weird delivery charge. Just a closed shop, a knowledgeable proprietor, a willing customer and a next-day delivery.

I’m going to like this town.
